Mullein Moth (Cucullia Verbasci)

This is the caterpillar of the Mullein Moth (Cucullia Verbasci) which feeds on Buddleia, Figworts and Verbascum.The single egg is laid on underside of host plant leaf, is white and turns grey before hatching. Caterpillar is most commonly encountered part of life cycle as it feeds on leaves of host plants.Pupa is longest part of cycle living underground in strong cocoon. Caterpilla is approx. 50mm in length, moth flies late April- June, approx. wingspan 50mm.
