Award Shortlist

No Ugly Duckling

By discreetphoton
It's not winning any awards, it's just some swan I was using to test out some more advanced techniques in photoshop than I'd been using prior to my computer dying on me.
Finally found a book that explains it all, and had to try it out.

wonderful detail captured here, perfect focal distance, love the fact you can see moisture on its beak, clicky from me.

Thanks. Deez, I experimented with calculations for the first time as a way of selecting, played about with curve adjustment layers, removed a distracting flock of ducks from the background and sharpened up the bird whilst blurring out the background. Oh yeah, and the swan also got rotated. The beak was originally parallel with the horizon, and it made it hard for me to find a crop that I liked.

Nice one. Beautifully sharp and the cut out has been done fantastically - there is none of the usual give away halos
