Corncrake - in the open

By drbird
First a big THANK YOU for all the awards, comments and votes.....much appreciated...THANKS!!!

Corncrakes ...another one of my favourites. Despite having plenty of pictures of this elusive bird I can't stop going back and looking for more and better pictures. When two males had an acoustic battle at the side of the roan I was pretty sure one would have to move out and fingers crossed it moved our way over a rocky patch surrounded by spring flowers....Needless to say the cameras in our car were busy at that moment which latest about two seconds ...then the bird disappeared in the higher vegetation.

Well, the image appears to have been orchestrated by a bird wrangler over the course of an hour or so---the Corncrake pliantly following the wrangler's directions, and the light obeying too as the shutter opened and closed. Because how else did you get the focus just so, the flower "arrangements" just so, and so on and so forth?? In short, the bird may be the subject, but in this case the background vies with it for attention.
