Wondrful shot. A penny-farthing is a delight to see in action. Just mounting one is a challenge in itself let alone racing on one of these fabulous old machines.

Whilst you bemoan the fact that you could not use a reflector, on reflection I would sa that this portrait is all the better for no reflector. Well done.Grin

  • Wedding Shoot, Shanghai style. by DRGW497

I was watching this scene for around 10 minutes and nothing appeared to be happening. Two photographers, four assistants and I, a tourist, was the only one taking photographs so perhaps they were bored.

  • Reflections, Riverton NZ by DRGW497

    Thanks Andy.

I had forgotten that I had another photo using my zoom at 32mm lens rather than at 73 mm as in the previous view that you commented on.

This one, however, has been heavily cropped and I felt that a square format would be a better chioce.

I will be posting another view shortly from a little closer to the sea but looking back towards town.

    Cheers,
    Mike

  • Riverton, New Zealand - Early morning reflections by DRGW497

Thanks Andy for the Constructive Critique. I have looked closely at the original and it appears that when I took the shot I inadvertantly missed that I had cropped the reflections of the mast tops. The lower edge of the shot is at the edge of the image so any straightening would cut off more of the mast reflections. It's a pity that I didnot see this when I took the shot but being back in Australia I will have to take it again when I'm next on the South Island of New Zealand.

    Cheers,
    Mike

  • Main Street, Morpeth, NSW by DRGW497

No Bill, I was catching up with an old friend who owns the old bank building in Morpeth and just saw this typical scene and decided that it was well worth the shot and also it seemed to be better in mono.

  • AUSTRLIAS HOT ROAD TRUCKERS by davie

The "oversize" warning is due to the total width of the vehicle being greater that 2.4 metres. The "Road Train" sign means that the prime-mover (or tractor in US speak) is hauling at least 2 and as many as 4 trailers, each up to 13 metres in length and weighing up to 40 tonnes.

So, yes, it is a little truck of somewhere between 60 and 250 tonnes gross vehicle mass that is just about to avoid some very common Aussie road-kill. These rigs have enormous momentum and require a great amount of skill from the driver.

Now who was the lucky photographer to come across a scene like this when it had just stopped raining? Rain here is almost as scarce as hens teeth. Grin

Great picture. The light sepia tones add atmosphere and lack of background detail ensures that the subjects really stand out. Well done.
