The frosty Gentle Giant

By Drummerdelight
Looking forward to the warmth of my home I was cycling back from a photo-trip.
With nearly frozen fingers (& more) I suddenly saw a 'frozen' horse in a field whilst cycling & skidding past a narrow path leading to that field.

I layed in the snow under the barbed wire and waited untill it became curious enough to come looking & sniffing at me, I could feel en hear it's warm breath. WoW!

Exited, not feeling the agony of the cold (minus 9 degrees) I took some shots of him leaning towards me.
This was a once in a lifetime experience, it felt like I was with a dinasaurus....

My frend 'Gilbert Hoste' helped me with giving it a special look.

Your description really adds to the sense of the atmosphere in which you captured this shot. This is a great image with a wonderful point of view. Nice processing too. I do feel for the poor animal though and hope that it survives the dramatic temperature. All round a sensational image.

Worth all of your discomfort and you have been rewarded with a very unique image. Superb (and the processing help has certainly brought out the best in this shot)

A superb image, Guy! I love the composition (and admire your toughness in lying in the snow) and the processing treatment, especially the way you have rendered the icy strands on the horse.

I liked your choice of angle, even though you had to lie on the snow,as this is one of those WOW images, that you have captured. The PP work really adds to the mood & visual impact of you subject,I liked the choice for the sky textured background.

Cheers

Just found this, must have been while I was off-line for bit. Terrific shot Guy, I also really admire your commitment - lying under a barbed wire fence in the snow - dedicated (or crazy). The low pov and wide angle makes for a really unusual view, love it !
