Tuebingen Castle Courtyard

By ducatirider
This is a HDR shot of the castle (Schloss) courtyard in the university town of Tuebingen, Germany. As you can see the weather was taking a turn for the worse. And yes I did get wet.

Thanks for looking and commenting - Paul

P.S. I have turned the new "Photography Choice Voting" on, if you give a negative please say why....all criticism helps so long as it's constructive.

OK, here goes. I like the composition and the threatening sky, but (and it's a big but) I personally don't like the overdone colours so common in HDR. It gives a terrible falseness to the image. If HDR is supposed (as its advocates maintain) to give a more accurate representation of what the human eye sees, then this fails. The human eye certainly doesn't see bright yellow castle walls and orange cobble stones - that's just over-processing. There's a good pic here, if only the processing had been more subtle. Take this in the spirit in which it's intended, and you're to be congratulated for daring to turn on the new 'down vote' category! Best, James.

Hi James. Thanks for your constructive comments and I agree with your views, to a point.

I have uploaded the 1st shot of the 9 taken for the HDR photo so you can see that the castle is in fact yellow, as are the cobbles - to a fashion. I too agree with you about over done HDR's but, sometimes it adds to the dramatic effect; as I was going for here. I have a lot of HDR in my PF; some you can tell are HDR some are very subtle. I think HDR is one of those processes you either love or hate, but on the whole it is a useful tool to have in the bag every now and then.

Hi... I stand corrected - the walls are yellow! My inclination would have been to stick with V2 and done some dodging and burning on the cobbles to give them a bit more impact. But hey, each to their own. Best, James.
