Time for an update: I still use film, though. Not vast quantities, but I have a darkroom, and I'm not afraid to use it.

I enjoy every image I take: I hope you'll enjoy looking at them.

It isn't by anyone you've heard of. Nor the work of some new star in the photographic firmament. And itís not even one of mine. Itís not gracing this blog, because of lots of things Ė I donít have permission to use it, itís a very personal shotÖ But I am going to write about it. Youíll have seen similar ones, though, and they often appear on Facebook. But it is the most wonderful, beautiful thing I have seen.

And oddly, itís a completely unedited shot, and it suffers from the problem that people used to have with cameras that imprinted date and time: itís got pretty full EXIF on it (including date and time, and location). You canít switch them off.

As it goes, this one is pretty much composed according to the rule of thirds, though many similar pictures arenít. And itís in black and white, as well, which pretty much writes it off for many peopleÖ Sharp? Well, up to a point, but not specially. And there are blurred foreground objects, as well.

I wonít swap it for an Ansel Adams original print, though: and I bet you wouldnít. Though, like all good reportage images, a good caption has helped comprehension quite a bit. The extra data is that itís a girl. The image is Ė of course Ė the ultrasound of my first grandchild.

Just because it isnít art, it doesnít mean that itís not beautiful Ė even if the eye of the beholder is adding rather a lot to the total experience.

Signs of normality are slowly returning: and I am finding it increasingly difficult to find topics that I can blog about. Rather fewer people are reading it, too - which may, of course, be an indication that the quality has dropped somewhat! It could even be that fewer people are stuck indoors, with less than they want to do.

My first studio session for months is in the diary for two weeks on Monday, and I plan to discontinue daily blogs at that point.

I'll continue to blog occasionally, but - for the moment, at least - a daily blog's an idea that has reached a natural end point.

As for your blog, l find that these days I only get satisfaction from the photos that I take just to please myself, rather than to upload for the pleasure/amusement of an audience. So maybe you'll get more enjoyment out of writing a occasional blog when you feel the inspiration, now that the lockdown is ending and granddadhood beckons, rather than it being the daily commitment that it must currently be.
Great news John
Beautifully written blog ... keeping us in suspense till the end

Great news John, welcome to the Grandad club. We have four lovely Grandchildren, three girls and a boy, two of whom we don't see much because they're in another country. It was so good that my father lived long enough to see all of them.
