I wrote, a couple of years back, about a local business that has flourished for a decade, and which is very dear to my heart – Ag Photographic, founded by Matt Wells. I’m a fairly regular visitor to their premises, and have had the privilege of seeing behind the scenes at what is, essentially, a mail-order business.
Chatting with Matt last time I was on the premises, we started talking about blogs, and he asked me if I was interested in writing for the Ag blog. The first result is on their website, and deals with exposure – particularly the way that film is more demanding than digital.
I spent a good deal of my younger life trying to be the same person at work and at home, in all the contexts where I interact with people – I found that it was harder than I’d expected, because people often have expectations that – for instance – loyalty to an employer will be stronger than commitment to the truth.
With more years has come more relaxation with who I believe myself to be, and I find it easier to be the self that I want to be, rather than the angry young man that I know I was. Part of growing up has been learning when to keep quiet a bit more, and when to make links.
I hope, if you look at the Ag blog, that you’ll find it interesting, and that (again, if you can be bothered) you will be glad to find that there are still enterprising and enthusiastic people running distinctive and photographically-orientated businesses if you look at the article about Matt.
