Round two

Time for an update: I still use film, though. Not vast quantities, but I have a darkroom, and I'm not afraid to use it.

I enjoy every image I take: I hope you'll enjoy looking at them.

Round two

Life this week has been interrupted a bit by the birth of our first grandchild: Della arrived on Sunday morning, and everyoneís been telling me that Iíve got a free model for the next few years. Itís been a while since Iíve had much practice photographing babies, and it ought to be so much easier with digital than it was with film.

When my children were small, 1000 ISO was pushing it: 10 times that is easily achievable these days, and a modern auto focus system with eye recognition should make life a lot simpler! Best of all, Iím neither responsible for getting up in the middle of the night to feed Della, nor do I have had a job to get in the way.

Iím inspired by a lot of my Ephotozine friends who have posted beautiful, evocative portraits of their grandchildren: Iím particularly indebted to Roy (kaybee) who is probably my oldest friend on here. Roy took exception advantage of the photographic opportunities his grandchildren have offered, and Iíll be doing well if I match them.

There is one big downside though. I was never the most physically flexible photographer in the room, and it definitely takes me longer to get down onto my knees. Getting up is more a matter of the calendar than the stopwatch. But on the whole, the way is open for much photographic mischief and many photographs that I will need to print and distribute around the family.

Of course, whether you get to see any of them will be a matter of parental choice. Watch this space.

Have you ever noticed how difficult it is to find old photographs when you want them in a hurry?

Such a lovely time and goes so quickly that you have to enjoy every minute. I have an external hard drive chock full of granddaughter images and it is great to look back. Also DVDs and recordings have taken over from the little suitcase full of family snaps. As for being a willing model, fine up to teens then a no go area! I have posted one or two of our granddaughter when younger but with permission.

Recommend Weleda Arnica Balm for those joints John - any decent health shop or lovely Amazon. You'll need it! WinkWink

Congratulations for the newest family member dudler.

I think you will find automation being your best friend. When she is old enough to crawl, press the self timer 10 seconds choose continuous shooting, and hold the camera upside down by the monopod. Voila!

Still at her height and at your convenience. Hehe
