To reassure - Laura made a deliberate choice to shave her head, and there was no medical issue. Some years previously, two colleagues were both having chemotherapy: one went the wig route (and, in fact, was more pleased with it than she ever has been with her own hair), the other initially wore a scarf. They called themselves 'the Chemo Kids'. Her treatment was, ultimately, not successful: she repeatedly nearly reached the point at which the doctors would say she was in remission, and never quite made it. She fought Hodgkin's Lymphoma for several years, and it was a battle between a brave, determined and defiant woman and a horrible disease. Towards the end, she stripped life back to the essentials, and wore what she called the 'slaphead' look with a defiant pride.

Hodgkins was what my daughter had and it went undiagnosed until it was in the third and final stage. She had no chance surviving the cancer and a 25% chance of surviving a new, very strong Chemo. It was a wild ride but she survived and has had no reassurance. But the prognosis was that she could never have children. That young man leaping out of the void - Leap of Faith that I posted a while ago? That's her very healthy son. So kudos to this lady. She's honouring more than two friends.
