Moments from impact

By dwjones
Taken this weekend in our match against Shinfield. Just before going out Andy had asked if he should take a helmet out, he normally doesn't wear one. As the ball had been lifitng dramatically off a length I and others suggested yes. This was the 4th ball of our innings and as you can see he did take a helmet out luckily!

This is heavily cropped from the original to show the impact that's just going to happen.

Ouch - good capture.

The background doesn't really help: a wider-aperture would blur if if you have it, or try to find a place where there's nothing distracting behind the hitter. I've not figured cricket out (photographically or otherwise), but it might be good to show the wicket things too?

I tried snappin cricket at a local practice game a week or so ago and at 300mm I had to crop heavily so surely you must have been on the field to get this at 85mm.

Good effort but a shame about the background. I would suggest getting low down on the floor to give the batter a base if you know what i mean,

philwig - normally I would include the stumps Wink. But was trying to draw then attention to what was about to happen. Background comment noted for furture shots.

wotashot - Sorry not sure what you mean by give the batsman a base. Was not on the pitch. Have uploaded the un cropped to the modified section. If it works.

All - thanks for the comments and feedback.

Ok, first I will say that I am useless at explanations bu tI will try my best.

By giving him a base I mean......If you can imagine this shot taken from lying low on the grass then you would have a foreground of gradually blurred out grass which appears to support the image and give the batter something to stand on....I will try and find an example and put up a link when I have found one,

Jamie

UPDATE: Ok picture number 7 in this guys portfolio seems to illustrate my point the best

What a capture, did you take every ball or just strike lucky with one that lifted?

Where did it hit him and was he ok?

In response towotashots comments about a base, its already been pointed out that this is a crop from a wider angle shot.

Peter,
I don't take every ball so this was luck.
It smacked him on the helmet then flew to gully. He was OK but was out a few balls later.

Thanks for the comments and keep those cricket pictures coming.
