The Scottish Borders

By EAS
This is a wonderful spot near us, a farm so appropriately named, "Heatherhope". The rolling, rugged hills of the Borderland are beautiful and at this season purple heather carpets so many of them. In the case of this farm a local bee keeper takes his hives there to get full benefit from this vast array of flowers. I hadn't know until George told me, the water in this image was the source of the town of Kelso's water supply for many years until the 1960s and the reservoir wall still stands firmly in place minus the central section leaving a lovely little loch to the rear, a home to a contented family of swans. The vehicle you can see belongs to one of the gamekeepers as this is part of a large shooting estate and we had to drive with considerable care as there were so many pheasants and partridges on the road.

As you know, landscapes aren't really my thing but I so enjoyed taking photos in this area, you may well be subjected to a few more! Hope you think this one is OK?

Big "Thank You" to both John (lonely_onyx) & Mike (Hasslebladuk) for their much appreciated UAs for my previous posting. It does mean such a lot to me.

What glorious countryside, Ann, and the bees will make some delicious honey from the swathes of heather. Carol

What a lovely setting to practice your landscape skills Ann - and a very pleasing result. Don't forsake your lovely flower images though - they would be sorely missed.

Sorry to be the only dissenter here but though this is a lovely scene sharply captured I think it would be much better first levelled (slight rotation to the right needed) then cropped to take out a lot of the sky and concentrate on the landscape itself. I tried it and really do believe it works better. A vote for the potential.

I like the V-shape of the hills and the delightful sky. I am glad to hear the bee keeper takes his hives to the heather. bees need all the help we can give them at present.

This is more than just 'OK', Ann. Such a beautiful shot of a beautiful place. I love the clarity and depth you've got here...and I just noticed it's at only f8!

The heather is so pretty but looks even better sat amongst that lush green Smile

Looking forward to more!
