A proud Gozitan Woman at her ''LACE PRODUCTION''

By Edcat55
Lace a tradition which started in the era of the Knights

It is a scene from the past which we see every day among some Gozitan women. Sitting on a low stool, her face to the wall, with a lace pillow on her lap and clicking the bobbins, passing them deftly from one hand to another, as she works as fast as she can to finish the work so that she can earn some money by the end of the week. Lace made its first appearance in Geneva in 1530, the same year that the Knights arrived in Malta.

My wife has a friend who makes lace, when I got a good long close up eyeballing of this, with all the different threads and assorted embellishments, I was completely amazed at the intricacy of the work, and that it can be repeated for so many cycles, incredible.
But now of course most of it comes out of a computer controlled factory in China.Sad

What an amazing craft. Very clever. I expect she was brought up doing it so is second nature to her. Lovely natural shot.

Without glasses and her hands are still that nimble. Love her "Pink Lady" box. So many of these ancient crafts being lost,
