Gran #5 (B&W)

This is one image in a series of around 50 portrait images I did of my Gran recently. I will be putting these on here throughout January/February.

The images are taken in her flat. Behind her you can see a painting, this was painted by my Granddad (and was painted just before he died in 1978).

I wanted to see what people thought of these and perhaps offer something different to the usual abstract imagery I put on here.

Quite different from the others from the series, this one. The focus is not at all on gran. The way in which her place in this appartment is accentuated by the depth created by the door on the left and the kitchen on the right works extremely well for the reportage. The walking stick tells us a story about the importance of being able to move in all that space we see here. Regards, Bert

Whats interesting about this one is the inclusion of the environment, the walking stick, and her expression. The grainy B&W presentation suits this well.

An intriguing environmental portrait - the lack of eye contact, grain and soft focus create an almost voyeuristic feel ...

Very nice sensitive portrait. Nice that the details included (stick, painting) say something about the subject but not so many that tney clutter
