The sky is beautiful but think I may have sacrificed a little of it to draw attention to the harbour inlet and steps. A lovely composition.

Excellent photograph. Exposure is spot on and the colours are fantastic.

Thanks for your comments.

Joan, Interestingly I now normally compose in camera for a 3x4 ratio, and thus would normally be cropping slightly of the top or bottom. In this case I have left it as the top element of the sky is clearly spectacular. However, I had already cropped as you mention, and it does work. Smile

What a beautiful sunset with such rich tones across the sky, and yet you have captured such excellent detail in the more shadowed f/g areas. I like both versions, but I do think V 2 does carry a bit more impact. Lovely work.

V2 for me. The sky's brilliant but I prefer the crop as it seems more balanced.

Damn, I didn't miss much then! :-(

That is quite some sky can't even remember when I last saw on like that. V2 is more balanced but if it was me I don't think I could bear cutting off any of that sky Smile

Thanks

@ Adam, yes the lamp is definitely is an important element, However, I could kick myself for not moving a foot to the left, so not to cut the second one in half.

@ Den, first night there I did feel very lucky! I had such a great few days, the coast there is so dramatic, and Whitby really is a perfect resort to photograph.

nice capture Eli

didn't notice the second lamp post till you pointed it out but agree just a couple of feet either side sometimes makes all the difference.
