The Babble Tower

By ellavr
I couldn't find a song title to go with this that wasn't too obscure (who else apart from me has heard Live - Pillars of Davidson??).

Anyway decided on the present one.. a bit biblical!!

It is in Rome, dont know what it was called (should have a book to jot that sort of thing down), but it was very beautiful and very tall and very detailed in its carvings. I like the lean of the tower for perspective and the sky for contrast. Hope you like it.

Nice shot Ella - I like the angle. It's Trajan's Column, which tells the story of Trajan's campaign in Dacia. If you're ever in town and go to the V&A they have an incredible plaster cast of the column made in the 19th Century. Ironically, due to the damage caused by air pollution in Rome over the last century, the detail of the carvings is much better on the plaster cast.

Great perspective Ella, and the carvings look brilliant. I like the angle you have taken it from as it shows the detail up so well lower down the column. Well caught. Click.

Well thank you all. I was going to delete it this morning, cos I thought is was rubbish!! So thank you for your kind comments.

Thanks Gareth for telling me what it really is, I really should take a note when I take the pictures, it seems a bit ignorant of me not to know what famous monuments are, when I have taken photos of them. I quite liked the idea of it being The Tower of Babel!! I haven't been to the V&A for years so will make a trip soon and compare towers.

Great framing! - like the way the top of the tower follows the top right corner perfectly. God detail on the carvings & like the blue sky of course.

Thank you Gwyn, Eric, Magda, Steve and Helena.

Steve, I did that on purpose, it was very uneven on the original, so lots of rotating going on!! But you lose a far bit of the image doing that, so always better to get it right from the beginning!!

Like the angle. You have a strong structural sense like Mike in your portfolio. I never thought that portrait would inspire anyone to have the same. Looking at your portfolio
portrait I would say it will suit you. If you have the same style done, please upload it. Thanks for your comments, must get to work. John
