Photographing a Hidden Strength
It never stops to amaze me the strength that humans show when there is a need, a hidden strength that we donít always realize lies within us. I had the privilege to work with Jane Riley, a wonderful lady who was diagnosed with breast cancer and refused to let it beat her. Jane is an inspiration to us all and I was enthralled to hear her story of how she found an inner strength that gave her confidence that she hadnít experienced before. Prior to the mastectomy Jane although wasnít timid didnít have the same outgoing nature and would stay in the background observing more than participating in general activities.
To help her confidence grow even more Jane decided to pose for some artistic nude photographs at Elle Je Studio, something totally alien to her.
Once we started on the artistic nude photo shoot I was pleasantly surprised to see Jane relax within the first 30 minutes and not only did we capture some stunning images but had great fun in the process. Her new confidence and strength oozed out of her, a delight for a photographer!
Sadly one person is diagnosed with breast cancer every ten minutes in the UK alone, a staggering statistic, Jane is a survivor but sadly many are not so lucky.
Not only is she a survivor but a unique individual who is happy to show the world how you can overcome such a dreaded disease and even change your life style to a more inspiring and challenging one.
I have many requests to remove spots, scars etc from their portraits, this was not on Janeís agenda and to quote her ďthe scars are part of me, thatís who I amĒ
The hidden beauty of the human form is just so amazing!
