Brilliant shot Ellie, you caught the duck in a super attitude. Just a hint. I often take the extra trouble to add a highlight to the eye on a shot like this, just that hint of white in the eye even if slightly blurred, seems to give it even more punch.
Really nice!

Great, thanks! I was also wondering whether I should clone out the other duck in the top right corner. And whether the sea should have been a bit more blue. Cloning I have learned but not sure about how to do the sea colour. (I guess if I had learned about using RAW again...)

A mallard is common and can be quite boring.. you certainly have to work hard or be lucky to get a decent image of one now in my opinion. You have obviously done a bit of both.... this is a great capture, very clear and great emotion.

I see where you are coming from with the other duck ni the top corner, but in my personal opinion it doesnt distract too much from the image and can stay as it is.

When I started figuring out exposure and aperture I was happy to even get a focused shot of a duck standing still. Smile So I guess it is a "beginner phase" that one goes through. The selection of birds in central Oslo this time of year is rather limited, but I feel that I learn a lot from it so it will have to do until my next UK trip Smile
