My Very First Attempt At Portrait Photography!

By EmmaG_M
This is my very first go at a portrait, the hair was done by my friend vikki, lighting was a standard lamp bounced off a silver reflector at the front and sides.

Levels and contrast boosted the eyes were done using the warp brush in paintshop pro x2.

I know I lost some of the detail in the hair with my twiddling and its a touch over sharp in areas (it looked fine in paintshop but you can tell now) but other than that what do you think?

Be gentle it was my first time! Smile

I think you have lit this well, there are no shadows on the background (which I always struggle with). There is a shadow under your model's chin, but that doesn't worry me. The make up, particularly around the eyes is very striking, a bit like the 70's Glam look.

Nice one.

A great image - see mode where I have tried to increase the impact by cropping and rotating

A very creditable effort for your first attempt Emma. As you are eagre to learn then I'm sure you will. A good model and super presentatation. Keep at it and keep looking at other portfolios and ideas.

Thanks for all the positive comments and the great mod, this photo is one I found quite challenging, getting the lighting right especially when you don't have the luxury of studio lighting is difficult, communicating to the model what you want is vital, its something I am very interested in doing more of! Just need to find more willing victims! Ahem I mean models... Smile
