Heron

By eosdpete
So, I finally got to try out the new camera, A Canon 7D,
Went to a local lake where at the moment the Heron's are in courting mode
and I wasn't disappointed as there were two pairs of heron's in full swing,
this I believe is the male showing off while the female was on the lakes edge looking up,

I'm very pleased with results and will be uploading more from this series,
thanks for looking and all comments are both welcome and wanted.

Nice colourful image and well exposed, with the bird set against the blue sky.
The bird is a little to central, moving it more to the left would improve the composition, so that it looks more into the frame.
Cloning out the small branch intruding on the right, would remove a distraction
Looking at the Exif data, it may be better to use ISO400 and increase the aperture to f8.0, shutter speed would remain high enough?
These are very minor nit picks only, aimed at improving an already good image.

In addition to the suggestions above, the image is not quite sharp. Did you remember to re size, save, then check and adjust sharpness before you uploaded it? It makes a difference, as compressing the larger image can cause loss of sharpness. Also, dont use the multiple focus points. Select a single point that is close to the eye. place it on the eye, half press to focus, then click. You had enough light here to use f/8, and ISO 100, giving you a shutter speed of 1.800, or leave ISO 200 for 1/1600th.

There are a lot of models of that particular lens out there that are not very sharp at 400mm. Try 300,, and see if sharpness improves also.

Otherwise a nice shot, lovely sky.
