I think your rider finished behind this guy:

it is amazing you were both there, in the beginning I thought it was an upload from the same guy. Did you speak to each other?

Comparing the two (and the manufacturing age difference of the two cameras used, Konica-Minolta Dynax 5D and Nikon D3s) I come to the conclusion that picking the right moment to press the shutter may be more important the the gear itself. I can't see very well probably the eagle-eyed guys could spot differences in details of image quality I may not see. Cameras can assist us a lot but we instruct when the shutter will fire.

I will stress that I find no mistakes in your picture. Each photographer interprets reality through the lens, as he/she sees it and the themes and frames we shoot express our interests.
