Thanks Barb, Christine, Angie (not tonight, about a week ago, Angie) and Mike. Made of cast iron, I think, Mike, so it's been there a while. Good to hear from you all. Smile

The point of focus seems to be on the mud in
the foreground, I guess you had chosen a shallow depth of field, as everything forward of the foreground mud seems soft.
The mud and water I like, but the post as I said is soft( unless you hit it)and is a bit lumpy and indistinct,it gives no nice patterns or an attractive outline. The sky is bland. The forground mud and water do not have enough interest to carry this picture.

Thanks for your comments Eden, Jeanie, Martin and Ann, good to hear from you all. Smile

Martin, sorry this one doesn't appear to appeal to you either. You are mistaken, the main focus is on the post and its reflection in the pool and both are sharp. The silhouette may appear soft to you because the post is covered in rust and has suffered some damage to its edges. The lumps are raised writing on the post. Smile

Thanks Andy and Pauline. Smile

Martin, I didn't sharpen the edges above the horizon on this smaller version because the sun placement tended to produce a halo effect. Perhaps this may be what you've spotted? It was my attempt to avoid a similar criticism to the one you made regarding the edge of the bulb on my last one.

As regards my next one, I enjoy constructive criticism, because it helps me to improve. It would be good to have some tips from you as to how to cure the various problems you percieve? Smile

I am enjoying your beach images--the structureis unfamiliar to me, but it makes a good shape in this beautiful image--Sunset and its reflections are wonderful!

Hi Eric
Well we got our 2nd opinion, must just be me then: )
'Tips'? Only to someone who I think might find a tip useful. E.g I dont need to tell you about dof or sharpening as you almost certianly know more than I do!

I like the focus as it is, the post is what I keyed in on when I saw the thumb, also the reflection of the post combined with the water and soft sand ripples makes for an interesting contrast. Nice work, Spot on! Click!!!
