Face off

By Ericsamson
First many thanks to all who entered into the spirit of daftness shamelessly encouraged by 'The Line King'. I am especially indebted to Malc for giving it 'The Golden Groan Award' and I look forward to its perpetuation, leastways at intervals that may be described as 'decent'. SmileSmileSmile

Second apologies for not keeping up with this week's uploads; I've grabbed moments when I can but they have been fleeting to say the least. BlushBlushBlush

Today's image is the sharp end of the Handley Page Victor which is on display at the Elvington Air Museum just a few miles east of York. It's a wonderful piece of design and, if memory serves me correctly, this was one of the tankers which fuelled the Vulcan on its long journey to bomb Port Stanley airfield. I seem to recall that some described the Victor as the most evil looking of Britain's V Bomber fleet and seen from this angle I can see why. Having said that I've always rather liked its elegant scimitar wings and streamlined body. Nonetheless I have gone for a touch of the dark and brooding given that Saturday Shadows has come round again.

Very best wishes to all for what remains of the weekend. Graham. SmileSmileSmile

Facial pareidolia is setting in again. I'm seeing 'I am a bear of very little brain, and long words bother me...'.
A large glass of red wine may just conceivably be something to do with this...

At the age of 15 I stood under the bomb bay whilst on a ATC visit, thanks for the memory Graham

I recognised those piercing eyes under the medieval Knight's visor beneath the extended proboscis of the refuelling probe. The elegant wings that you describe appealed to me when carted off to the Farnborough Air Show aged ten-ish (my father always had to cover the event for the press and I got the spare pass for free). I'm surprised the Vulcan became the nation's favourite of the three Vs as, visor apart, the Victor was by far the most elegant; the poor old Valiant never got a look-in, a real Plain Jane hat was quickly out-performed by the two younger aircraft. Certainly the Victor was the loudest of them all, to judge by the pressure on my juvenile ear-drums as they took off.

We're often down York way; can't understand why we've never been to Elvington. Actually, I know why one of us hasn't been to Elvington; naming no names Blush

Thanks for this, Graham.

Have an excellent Sunday Smile
Regards
Bill

It does have a menacing look, somehting the new F35 just does not have despiote its stealth capabilities. Not out of place in a sci-fi movie.
That was one of the good things of being in the ATC Ken, getting close to aircraft.

One of my favourite aircraft to shoot when at Elvington.

Nice image, I've never gone that narrow on angle but really like the result. Something to try next time.

The low angle used does give it a menacing look, almost a sneer.

Even though I am sitting on a comfortable sofa, looking at a 15.6" screen, I still fell intimidated. There's something that says, whatever you're thinking of doing, don't. You won't stop me.

Silly Sunday image uploaded, as discussed.Wink

It is still to my mind, the most menacing looking aircraft ever built, DaveRyder has some cracking shots of one too. Super pic our kid; I likes it a lot. Still to see one in the flesh. Reminds me I have a couple of Vulcan shots I could seek out. Smile
