Smile Excellent! Just looked it up.... The Montgomery Mermaid and the ship (Montgomery) with 1400 tonnes of explosive on board sunk off the coast. Great sense of humour!

A merry mermaid she is definitely not!
If that's a friendly greeting, I'd hate to see what they do to unwelcome visitors...

More of a deterrent than a welcome but a great find and capture!

Taking the plunge not advised. 😳 🥴
'This is a quiet area. Strictly no boomboxes by order.'
A wonderful piece of understated satire and photographed in a way that allows the dark humour and folly to shine through. There are no other distractions from the surrounding landscape and there is something unsettling about the empty and featureless strip of tarmac in the foreground. Very nicely done. 🏆

A quick rummage located this article first published in The New Scientist on the 18 November 1995 and updated 10 February 2020. It concerns government proposals to build a bridge from Scotland to Ireland across the Beaufort Trench in which munitions were dumped after WW2.

Quote:This article, originally published in November 1995, was updated on 10 February 2020. We changed the headline and created a new graphic due to the government’s investigation of a proposed bridge between Scotland and Northern Ireland.
IN the past month, more than 4500 incendiary bombs from the Second World War have washed up on beaches around the west coast of Scotland. They are made of phosphorus, benzene and cellulose, and were designed to ignite on contact with air.

A mermaid threatening to blow you up doesn't look a good invitation to visit Sheerness! A great Silly Sunday shot though, Nathan! 😁👍🏻

Is this supposed to encourage you to visit Sheerness, or run in the opposite direction? A very amateurish image of the mermaid, or could be designed that way, so you would remember?

The mind boggles but whatever the intention was being this poster, you have captured it beautifully.

That's a great sign, Nathan Smile and if that ship goes up, that'll be most of the Isle of Sheppey gone with it...Sad
