I used the flash to highlicht the whiteflowers against a dark Background.

Was it a free standing flash?
The flash on your camera didn't fire.

Good concept!

No, the integrated one. I increased the contrast later, in the original photo the leaves were lighter... Thank you for the compliment!

A minus exposure compensation again, and again it is underexposed! You were perhaps lucky that the flash didn't fire, flower petals are very light-reflective, and flash used this close without a diffuser would risk nasty little blown highlights. The light on the petals is even here - there just isn't enough of it.

I would like to crop tighter to get rid of cut-off bits of plant top and left, and lighten. If you edit the upload to enable modifications I'll have a go. (Click on Options under your image, then Edit photo, then open the Options tab and click on Modifications. Then Save changes).

For flowers it's best to aim for relatively subdued light but not shadow. You could try using a reflector - just a sheet of white card or crumpled kitchen foil will do - to reflect a little more light onto flowers that are in shade; alternatively a piece of muslin or gauze will soften bright light falling on them.

I actually wanted the dark backdrop with just a hint of light on the leaves in the foreground. I liked the contrast of the dark and White and actually darkened the photo with the program I have. But I'm open to all suggestions for improvement. Thanks in advance..

I've uploaded a modification with notes - I've kept the effect dark and mysterious but put a bit more light onto the flowers for contrast to the shadows.

I loaded a mod that has the -1.3 removed.

This situation is a little more complex, as you have used flash also, and the flash has made the white flowers show less detail, due to the fact they are reflecting the light of the flash.

Moiras mod is much more sympathetic to the flowers, and they look better; the mod is again showing that not using the negative exposure compensation is a better choice; in this case, there would have been more natural light and less illumination from the flash.

You will learn a lot from experimenting like this once you understand the feedback.
