Siskin. Carduelis spinus

By FeatherFriend
Just got back from a 1500 mile round trip to Aberlour in Scotland. The weather was awful most of the time, nothing but rain, rain and yet even more rain and dark skies. So glad to be back. This is a shot of a Siskin, taken at the RSPB Abernethy National Nature Reserve during a brief spell of sunshine.
Loch Garten Osprey Centre is a feature of this reserve and I was fortunate enough to actually witness one of the chicks 'fledge' the nest. Managed a couple of shots of the chicks in the nest, but as this was a quarter of a mile away, my kit just wasn't up to it, so, I have included version 2 as a 'record shot' only. I will do my best to try and catch up with everyone, but hope you will forgive the clicks along the way.
Thank you all for your votes and kind comments on my 'Hooded Pitta', I appreciate it very much, and also your continued support.

This one is lovely, the yellow on the bird really helps it to stand out from the background. angi

Good detail and exposure on the bird have helped seperate it from the dark background well. Nice tones.
Well presented with a complimentary coloured frame.
Deserves to do well!

Hope to see you in 2 weeks.

Hi Paul, versions 2 and 3 are record shots only of the Ospreys nest which was a quarter of a mile away. I only uploaded them to show how the RSPB had their CCTV cameras mounted at the side to relay pictures back to the hide.

Hi Geoff the Siskin is stunning - I've only managed shots of them on a feeder:-( Such a shame the wheather wasn't playing ball - very dissapointing but I bet the Ospreys were lovely to watch - mind you if you're anything like me I would have wanted to get a good shot - never mind better luck next time. I actually got a few bird shots too at the same time but nothing like your standard. I might just be brave enough to post one or two of them though... watch this space..... This is lovely Geoff and what a great experience watching that huge Osprey fledgling take off like that.

....excellent shot Geoff :

....four years ago we toured Scotland, half your mileage for me, living near Leeds :
three weeks never saw the sun...nothing but rain and midges, kept hopeing for some improvement...after 3 weeks we cut short and came home, said i'd never return.
Been thinking lately i'd try again but you've just put the kibbosh on that....just not worth it.....LOL

This is such a lovely Siskin capture.
Very well taken and presented Geoff.
Well done with the Osprey too. I saw one in June in the
Lake District, but it was merely a fleck in the sky over
a lake. Needed the RSPB folks to tell us where to look !

Beautifully presented. Thatís the first thing that sprang to mind when viewing this shot. Appreciate one cannot book the lighting conditions when doing this type of work and the touch of fill in flash (which I assume as been used) has recorded the subject superbly. As for the non distracting background - itís spot on also. Smashing.
