Thanks very much for the response to the male Bullfinch, and especially to Ed and Keith for the UA's, all are very much appreciated.

Back to the butterflies for today and an Apollo photographed in Spain earlier this year. I saw 4 or 5 individuals but this one was of particular interest as it's a pregnant female with the sphragis in position. The sphragis is a form of chastity belt and is secreted by the male during copulation. After copulation the secretion hardens to form a horny structure which prevents any other males from copulating with the female.
