Birdseye View

By Fefe
Morning all and a big thankyou for yesterdays C&C on my butterfly images.
An image from Alum Bay in the IOW today. I hope it doesnt lose its sharpness as V1 did yesterday TongueSad
Alum bay is famous for the 21 colours of sand found naturally in the cliff. Also for "The Needles" (coming in a seperate upload). There is a chairlift that takes you up and down to the beach, you may just be able to make it out, if you look close. There are also lots of fairground attractions at the top, glass making etc.
We only had a short visit here this time, but I find the best time to go is when its closed. Then you have the place to yourselfSmile......... But then you do have to tackle the stepsTongue

Pin sharp today and an image that shows off the cliffs and the various colours so well.
I imagine there are endless photo opportunities here, Diane.
With the high viewpoint and the boats in frame, one can appreciate just how high these cliffs are, towering over the scene below.

A cracking view and a cracking image. I wonder if it would have been improved if you had taken 2 or 3 steps forward..........................

I like this image, it really gives you a perspective of how steep the cliffs are with the little people at the bottom, nice contrast of colours as well!

Great image Diane exposed to perfection, there is also a cable car ride that is not very high but then swings you out over the cliffs, great place.

A superb viewpoint, Diane, I remember clambering amongst the sand with a class tube bought from a local shop, collecting the different coloured sand Smile Carol

I remember taking the chairlift down when our kids were toddlers. Slightly off-season, in October, but it was still running. You had a beautifully clear day for your visit, Diane.

It certainly is a colourful location! I was last in the IOW back in the early 90s, but didn't get down to beach here at Alum Bay - previous to that it was in the early 80s, and I vaguely remember going down on the chairlift, but don't think it went right down onto the beach (?). A wonderful capture, Diane, thanks for sharing these with us....more IOW please!!! Wink

We used to be able to make small glass tubes filled with coloured sands as a kid, I remember. Like a pick 'n'mix. They were like glass lighthouses.
Do you know what that high structure on the mainland is? Just above and to the left of the sailboat in the centre of the image? I can't remember that from when I lived in the area many years ago.
Great birds-eye view, Diane...as my dear old mum would have said, 'You're up a depth there!'

What a wonderful clifftop view Diane, you must have a real head for heights to venture so close to the edge to capture this!
