Today's Upload

I have had a virtual lifelong interest in photography which over the years has waxed and waned but was fully re-awakened with the coming of the digital age. I take photographs for my own enjoyment and if others also enjoy my images then that for me is a bonus. As you will gather from my portfolio I have no particularly speciality and dabble in most photographic genre.

Today's Upload

I have just uploaded a photo to my portfolio it should do better than yesterday's (which managed 30 votes) as it is a flower. Being the worst judge of my own photographs I find it impossible to forecast how my work will be received.

I usually get between 31 to 37% of votes to views and I have no idea whether this is good , bad or indifferent. It would be nice however to get more pointers on how to improve.

It is my youngest daughter's birthday today and at the moment the sun is shining. I hope it stays that way. We are out for a celebration dinner tonight.

Hi Albert,
I think that 30% - 37 % is about average for voting..there are lots of people who just browse through, my average is about the same .
Maybe you should opt for a critique rather than votes for some of your shots then you would get more pointers on how to change certain things or what is considered good or bad !
I always really enjoy your portfolio but am not always qualified to offer technical advice but there are lots of others who can. I think I get most of my help from just looking at other people's work ..there are so many things that I would love to be able to do.
Have a really lovely evening on your daughter's birthday and enjoy the rest of the weekend.

Hello Di

Thanks for your comments. I have tried critique and professional critique and never had a response which is disappointing and it is rare to get other than praise on uploads. It is too easy to get an inflated perception of how good your work is on here.

I do try give what I think is helpful advice on occasions but when it runs against all the praise being given I do wonder how well it is received. A case in point if pascalg 's scottie dog there is so much more great detail that can be brought out with the right adjustments.

Better climb off my soapbox and get ready to go out.

Best wishes,

I also find flowers do better than anything else I don't do birds!
When the response goes flat to shots or I loose heart I upload a flower!!!
That's probably not a completely fair statement, but I'm sure you follow my drift Albert

You shouldn't lose heart Helen but if you do also try sunsets and sunrises or over saturated landscapes Smile
