"Eilean Donan Castle"

By RonnieAG
Eilean Donan putting on a brooding aspect under a drizzly sky.........taken on our trip to sky (our last holiday) in Sept. 2008. It drizzled all the time whilst on sky and again on the way home when yet again the tide was out here.
Although the is Castle has become an iconic image of the Scottish Highlands, it is still less than 100 years old.

My thanks to all who commented on Meconopsis.

A fine composition, Ronnie, a most foreboding castle, I can just picture a knight on his horse riding across that bridge Smile Carol

Gosh. Your building is stunning.
My poor little chapel pales into insignificance

An excellent shot, Ronnie, of a place we will visit in July! Looking forward to that!
The colours in the foreground are so rich and contrast well against the mist.

I do find this capture very interesting Ronnie because of the lack of water, every photo you see has water in the foreground of this well photographed castle, the tones textures and mist make this my UA choice for today my friend.

Driech but very colourful for it! That FG rock is a lovely foil to the castle and it's also nice to see a different view; I hadn't appreciated the way the castle extends to the right in a stepwise fashion before seeing this image, well spotted! Being slightly picky, was there some camera shake? It's not quite as sharp as your usual.

I always manage to be driving by when the tide is out!
This is an interesting viewpoint and very atmospheric scene with the mist behind the castle.

The lack of light always brings out some excellent textures and tones, which is what you have here, Ronnie, and a different but strong composition.

A much photographed castle, but can't say I've seen it from this angle before. Can't say I remember actually seeing it either, but must has passed by it on the way to the Isle of Skye way back in 1986. And I didn't realise it was not that much older than me! Wink A truly wonderful capture here, Ronnie, with the castle sitting between those beautiful vibrant colours in the foreground and the misty background Smile Without a doubt, this has to merit my UA Wink

So well captured Ronnie, I also have seen this done many times before , BUT not like this, excellent work showing us a different view and so well framed.

for me just starting out in photography! I like the way this picture leads your eye from the left across the bridge to the entrance then along inside and up the tower on the right. Great detail and the mist just adds that perfect overall character and mystery of teh place. Bob

I thought I'd seen this iconic castle from every conceivable angle already Ronnie, but you've managed to find a new one which I very much admire! You had the same bad luck as me in 2009, it being low tide while I was passing there when I was returning from my visit to Harris.
Rgds., Jim
PS. Agree with Dave re lack of light being an enhancement at times, as you have proven so conclusively here!

Ronnie, I have always said the road to Skye is a place of dreams, and your choice of location for you comp is very pleasing to the eye, gives a different pov of such a great place.......nice work.

Wow that's some castle Ronnie, great lighting and colour plus the low (cloud mist) adds lots of atmosphere.
