Sanderling Streeeetch!

By fishiee
Thanks all for the comments on the reed bunting from yesterday.

Now for another bird shot. This time a sanderling from Portugal.

I'd spent the morning searching for chamelions at a location where I'd read they were supposed to be found, but think it's a bit like looking for a needle in a haystack and didn't go with any expectation of finding anything. I was proved right! However once we broke out from the scruby woodland and found the shore (we were kind of lost until this point!) I saw a group of sanderlings on the shore and thought I'd have a go a sneaking up on them and see how close I could get.

I was quite impressed how close I got considering it was open beach with nothing to hide behind!

I took several shots, but this was the one with some action!

Think that has exhausted my collection of bird shots that aren't rubbish so it will be back to the insects after this I think!

The behaviour, low pov, shallow DOF and sharp focus make this an excellent photo.
