The Five Legged Beastie

I spotted a beastie on top of the door.
It looked sort of odd to me.
I went over to get a bit closer.
So that I could have a look see.
---
I put my hand forward, just to entice.
It then move and just came alive.
It dropped to the floor and wriggled.
After performing a perfect nose dive.
---
Then I noticed it had a leg missing.
As it hobbled around on the ground.
All that effort was getting it nowhere.
It just kept going around and around.
---
I wondered how it would survive.
Being left to it`s own devices.
I even thought of trying to help.
By doing something with a couple of splices.
---
But the problem did not last for long.
When this bird, .... a wee rotten coward.
Swooped down upon my wee beastie.
Next I knew, it had been devoured.

How sad !!!
Looks as if the foot of the missing leg is stuck to the back right foot - most strange - I feel there are a few verses to be added to explain the predicament that he is in - sorry "was in"
