Mount Maroma and lake

By Footski
Taken near my home of the mountain with the lake in the foreground. Shot using a tripod low to the ground.

A good image. Clear and well exposed. Good composition with interesting foreground. Good use of aperture to get every thing in sharp focus.
Considerations may be:
It's an expansive scene, would this image have been even better in landscape format, but maybe you would have lost the attractive cloud?
an interesting person sitting on the rock might have added to the picture, or maybe a boat going by.

Decent scene but just a touch under exposed I think. The composition becomes three. The cloud, rhe headland and the foreground which don't gell together too well. I would have been looking at a landscape composition making a bit less of the sky.

Could have done with a yacht in the water to add a focal point and create a link.

I agree, but as this is an embalsa or reservoir, boats and yachts are limited......ha ha

I did take several shots including in landscape, but as you say, I would have lost the cloud. They just did not do anything for me like that. I am planning a return visit as it is very close to home. I will take a couple of model boats with me to add some interest, so I have another idea to work on. Thank you.

Its an image where the cloud plays a big part, having read the previous comments. The cloud id detailed and sharp.

The overall image though is underexposed in the lower, non sky area, and this can be corrected in post processing, as its normal unless you use a positive exposure compensation.

What I do notice though is a strong blue tone, indicating a cool colour temp, whereas it obviously should be warm, as the weather is sunny. Try setting the WB manually to the prevailing conditions.

Its seems, - and maybe just me, to need a small rotation counter clockwise.

All done in the mod.

It would have been possible to shoot a landscape, but not with the lake and foreground. You could have made it a skyscape, showing the shore and the sky with the clouds, wider angle - might have worked well.

Willie,
Thanks very much. Your mod is excellent. I will try and redo mine. I have not forgotten the other one I need to work on, but been busy lately. I do appreciate your help and advise.

Hello Footski.

I like the way you have framed your subject(s). I have no problem with vertical orientation, the pictures can fit in tight places, lol. The combination and alteration of colours is pleasing. I am not a keen landscape photographer, I like hints of human life in landscapes. The stones of the foreground although echoing the white of the clouds (and think of the contrast of texture!) have great potential - I shall explain later - . I would like to see a crop that horizontally excludes the land and the green on the foreground, possibly containing the top of the rock on the right. So the sequence from top to bottom goes: sky, cloud, sky, mountain, forest, lake, rock. It can be read as an inverted Z. (with the rock being the fullstop of your statement).

I am taking hint from your name here and although I will stress that I have no shoes fetish I would suggest in teh absence of a bird sitting on the rocks, to take off your boots and place them in the frame. Gone swimming?

This would be my hint of human life in the landscape.

Adios,

Aww, I might had to rewrite and say that I like the picture as a whole but an alternative cropping would have been the one I suggested. And clarify that teh boots could have been placed on the rocks.
