Ancient Egyptian ploughing sled

By fotobee
Tulbagh South Africa

We came upon this ancient Egyptian artifact on a guest farm near Tulbagh. It is an almost complete example of a ploughing sled used on the Nile Flood Plain, and is estimated to be between 3500 and 4000 years old. There is no glue used in it`s construction,. It is wholly made of cypress interlocking parts, and is almost as sturdy as when made, except for the inevitable wood shrinkage. The old bronze rings, where they attached the plough at the back, and the oxen in front, are still there and can be seen on the sides. In those days there was no SPCA, and I pity the poor oxen who had to drag it along ! I guess the size of the whip played a big part in it,
