Black Widow with centipede

By fotobee
Tulbagh South Africa

A Black Widow (Latrodectus) or button spider busy subduing its prey, an equally poisonous centipede. I came upon this scene just outside my back door, on the ground late at night, and almost stood upon them. The struggle was epic and lasted almost 15 minutes, before the centipede was parcelled up in the spider`s web and hauled off, still struggling weakly, to be devoured. The spider has made its home on a rectangular flowerpot a meter high, on a stand. The seed is windblown, and hindered the spider mightily in spinning the web tightly around the centipede.

Thank you all for voting, and the lovely comments I received on my Phalaenopsis gigantea spp. This was greatly appreciated !

Have a lovely day !

Best regards
Martin
