Phalaenopsis gigantea spp

By fotobee
Tulbagh South Africa

This is a moth orchid, (Phalaenopsis gigantea spp) given to me by our neighbour`s wife. It is a hot growing species, with very large leaves and with flowers a full 6 inches across, but unfortunately has a short blooming time of about 2 weeks. Our winter temperature is far too low for it`s survival, it needs a minimum nighttime temperature of about 25 deg C. Our neighbour asked if we wanted it, as it was busy dying from a black rot infection, which I had to cut out, from a low temperature condition. It will be touch and go for it to survive.

Thank you all for looking at, voting for and the very welcome comments you gave my photo of the Ipomea spp recently. This was very welcome !

Have a lovely day.

Best regards
Martin
