Smokey Sunset

By freckles
This photo took a bit a effort last night...

I was still at work and thought I might quickly race home for the sunset as I heard there were a couple of fires yesterday. The whole way home I could see the beautiful red sun through the smoke, going down every metre I drove Sad

Anyway got home, grabbed my camera and ran to the beach and this is one of only two photos I got before the sun disappeared Sad

Hope you like it...

Hey, it looks just fine - no need to worry. With it being so low, it's only enhanced the fiery redness.

I might have tried zooming in/using a zoom lens a little on the sun though, just to get it to fill more of the picture.

Still, a lovely image Smile

Even after the sun has set the light can be brilliant. twilight is my favourite time of day right before and right after the sun has risen or set you can get the best lighting effects. Another thing i have noticed is when the sun is setting always look behind you - you never know what is being lit up. Sometimes the best pictures can be just behind you!!

netherless...i do like this shot there's something about it that draws me to it but i cant think what...i'll just go with the "it looks good" comment!

thanks, mikee*

Thank you everyone for your lovely comments...

I do agree, you can get some beautiful shots just after the sun goes down, and I did get a couple that night too (as I was already late to met for dinner though, I didn't stay long). The sun was just amazing in the sky Thursday night. I will be sure to turn around next time and look around.

Thank you again for your help and comments again Smile

Super shot. The small glowing sun gives a sense of distance and lonliness to the scene. Good shot - welcome to epz

Thank you again everyone for you lovely comments.

Mike.W - believe it or not, the month I was over there (Ireland for 5 days, France for 3 and the rest in London) all weather was beautiful except for 2 or three in London! I even got sun burnt in Ireland hehe. I thought it was rain rain rain there... but no; someone loved me enough to give me a beautiful holiday!

Lovelly shot Andrea, has a mystically wuality to it. I would suggest maybe including the either the rock on the left or right for some foreground interest and even try a low viewpoint or portrait composition.

Still, I'd prefer to be on that beech than in the cold and frost.

You've some really good shots in you p/folio too.

Beautiful sunset like the way the sun illuminates the receding water on the beach.

ps: go to This e-book is an amazing teaching tool. I spent 100's of dollars on PS books before I discovered it, and I keep it right up to date. Last winter I made it my main project to learn Photoshop, and I couldn't have done it without this e-book. Over 2700 pages of interactive programs that actually work, and hundreds of beautiful photos. You can download a demo.

Beautiful Andrea, the setting and the warm sunshine tones combine to make this a quality exposure.

Yes, I like it too. Fires can make the best sunsets. We have a lot of them near the end of the dry season in California.
