Lonely Rails

By G3
Local rail line here in town. This line had been abandon for years and only recently reacativated by a private operator--freight only. Limited speed of10MPH. Having visited England and seen how rail systems SHOULD be run...This is sad testomony of American stupidity

I do like the colours and perspective in your shot - it really conveys a feeling of neglect.
(I don't have to travel by train now but from reports I hear, the train system in England is generally not very good - very expensive and pretty unreliable - although I picked my nephew up from the station last week and the train arrived right on time!)

Looks to be a wonderful building, substantial and in remarkable condition. Love the tracks, have they got steam in mind at all?

Like your POV - not sure everone in UK would agree with you on a well run railway system - Japan and Switzerland may be.

I like the low angle you have used here, and as the train only does 10mph you would have plenty of time to get off the tracks if one came along Smile

I work on the railways, and the chances are the rail operator would have the speed limit set by the health and safety board !! At our Depot, the speed limit is 5 mph.Crazy,I agree !! Good take here.

Watcha Gerry,
excellent night shot.
I shouldn't wish too much for an efficient rail system, after all, it was the only thing that Mussolini got right.

Great shot, I'm afraid I concur with my compatriots on our service. I have fishing stool I sit on every day in to London and pay 3,000 per annum for the privelidge. Can't get a seat.

Nice shot, such a pity the powers that be have to mess with things.
Dont worry though it is the same in England some of the finest bits of rural track in the world were spoiled by Dr Beeching. A few dedicated people are still working on short bits of track and running the steam trains on a touristy basis the NYMR is a prime example if you ever come back to England and you like this sort of thing it does not get better. Check out my web site for images of this railway.
Would have had a go on the Silverton to Durango steam train if time had of been kind to me.
Cheers mick.
