Abstract: Blue Skies Again

By gajj
We'd been camping out in the Nevada desert over the weekend, windy, stormy, rainy. Driving home on Highway 93 through the western desert, we decided to do a "10 mile challenge" - stop every ten miles and take a picture - quite a challange in the middle of nowhere! The highway was puddled with rain water, but the sun broke through, and the blue sky reflected in the tire guard ruts on the side of the road.

Comments, suggestions, kudos or groans - all appreciated.

Jan, this is a wonderful idea for a shot, especially as it sounds as though you were pressured into it with your 10 mile challenge.

Great idea, well spotted and well taken. A click from me (I seem to be very generous with my clicks today - or perhaps it's because I'm seeing a lot of photos I think are worthy of a click).

Thank you Ashley, it was a fun challenge - breaks through the 'nothing to photograph' mindset - give it a try!

I would, Jan, but my wife (who drives me around) isn't so obsessed with photography and if I kept asking her to stop the car I'd be frightened that one day she'd drive off before I got back in.

I hear you - its actually how I got into photography - self defense from driving around stopping every few minutes to watch someone else take a picture! Buy your wife an expensive camera - maybe she'll get hooked!

Great idea and a good result in this abstract image. Wouldn't recommend to do this in Spain. I stopped to shoot a beautiful sunset and had the police on top of me as I got off the car. Got fined for stopping on the hard shoulder of the highway.

Oh my, that's not good Antonio! Maybe you'll have to do a walking challange!

Good subject, these bumps warn drivers that they are about to leave their lane. They are really noisy. Um, not that I have any personal knowledge of that!

Yeah, but I got a pretty picture of a flower, probably will get about 2 clicks. Love how you always see something else.

Hard to believe that you could make an interesting shot from something so mundane, but the texture and the light are the key.
A really good shot.
