The tunnel

By gary_d
Low light photography is a new one for me.

A friend of mine has a hobby of finding and walking through disused railway tunnels, strange I know but its different for sure.

He asked me to accompany him and get a photograph of this one a couple of miles from where I live so always up for a challenge I agreed.

It was pitch black inside and we used four powerful torch's and my flash gun to light it.

As I said its totally new to me so I will be interested in what you think.

Regards. - Gary

Pitch black, and yet you've produced a golden glow Gary, and you can see the light at the end of the tunnel. Impressive photography my friend.

Excellent work Gary - was this with one shot or did you combine several?
A brilliant result however it was achieved.

Was wondering how you acheived this light until I read your description - it's very well lit - uniformly for that matter.. Excellent shot!!

Keep on keeping on I say
The colours seem to false to me
I would love to see this in a more mono
The comp is spot on
And details well mean
What sort of length was it....
Oh what fun!

Isn't it amazing how, despite the warm tones and the mass of detail all around, our eyes are drawn to that tiny spot of light in the far distance?
Excellent work, Gary, and another string to your bow so to speak.

That's amazing. I'd be frightened at what the lights might throw up.
Very nicely done. Even light throughout and sharp. I'm not sure I like the colour saturated so much - it needs to look a bit colder for my taste. But super shot - and brave too. Smile

Love the yellow light on the bricks & stones Gary . Glad you went in pairs as it seems rather spooky ! The yellows swirls. around till it disappears into the darkness but still there is that tiny light at the end of the tunnel . Nice work I enjoyed looking at it xx

I don't think this one is oversaturated at all, I think it is the effects of the flash and the lights you were carrying. Very different from your normal stuff Gary but very good too. This reminds me of some of the tunnels I negotiated on the canals when i went on narrowboat holidays, some were over a mile long and took 20 to 30 minutes to go through in total darkness. On one occasion we hit another boat passing through in the other direction that was travelling far too fast, the other boat came off far worse in the collision and some of the crocks on their kitchen table got smashed up!

well done, it takes some guts to use you camera in a dark wet , dripping tunnel!. great result and don't worry about the colour, torches do that.
