Mike Jordon

By Gary_Williams
Brands Hatch: Season opener of the BTCC No2

Mike Jordan, in his Team Eurotech Honda Integra, qualifying on Saturday.

Taken from the outside of Druids, exposure was 1/3200s @ F5.6, the camera was set to AV mode and the ISO speed set to 200 because of the changeable conditions, hence the high shutter speed.

As with all my shots, post processed in Photoshop CS2. This is uncropped, the mods are;

A blast with a USM of 18,64,0
A curves adjustment to boost the contrast
Resize & border
Switch to Lab mode and another USM of 70,1.4.1
Finally, save to web (75% quality/compression)

Feel free to offer critique.

Cheers,

Gary

Very nice shot, well composed. Although, with the processing you've done the red seems maxed out on the wing mirrors. The extremely fast shutter speed has completely frozen the car which seems almost stationary imho. Ian.

I'm with Blackett on this one Gary, it does all seem a little bit static because of the faster shutter speed. There's not even any blur on the wheels......Other than this, I like the shot, especially the composition where the other car is OOF in the B/G...

Smile

I'm just working my way back through the Gallery and I come across Pete's shot.

Mo, I was! We met up all too briefly. One of my later shots will be taken from Pete's step!

Ian, thanks for your comments, that's exactly what I was after. I'll upload a mod' without the curves tweak, and see if it looks any better. Possible if I'd uploaded the shot before when the car was more square on I would have got away with the high shutter speed.

I can't believe of the 2,500 shots I took at the weekend I upload a shot so similar to Pete's - well that's my luck Smile

Have a good evening folks, I'm back off to the gallery.

Ade, sorry didn't mean to ignore you, uploaded my comments just after you posted yours. I know what you mean about the lack of movement in the wheels, however I think the chassis loading gives a degree of action.

However I post these shots for the feedback, and both Ian and yourself have posted great feedback.

Rest assured, lesson learnt Smile

Cheers folks.

This is incredible. I can't believe how you completely froze the wheel in place. an dI can still tell there's action by the lean. Nice touch in back with the other car too!

Great composition and colour, but its a bit static for a racing shot IMO. Love it all the same though Smile

Great Shot,
composition focus and exposure spot on,but the bonus is the car in the background, who's overcooked it?

Thanks folks, appreciate the comments.

Martin, its interesting you mention the car in the background, officially its off the track, however nearly all the cars used this area. Strictly speaking they should incur a penalty, bet nobody was penalised.

Thanks John for the mod

I think the consensus is not enough motion in the lead car, thanks for the critique, its appreciated.

Cheers,

Gary

Awesome shot! Always wondered why they don't just make the fake grass part of the track. Everyone drives on it anyway!

Would be better with the gravel trap cloned into the top right corner, that dark bit witht the green blob is distracting. Also a bit static, with no dynamics.
