The Office

By Gary_Williams
... What every race car drive calls the office.

This shot is from last weekend at Brand Hatch, a real budget, club weekend.

This is not a crop, straight out of the camera, honest!

Then into Photoshop CS2:

Decided on B&W because I thought the image could have been from the 50s/60s, so give it a bit of a nostalgic feel.

Few bits of post-production work, and this is the final image.

Comments, critiques or mods welcome, tell me what you think.

Exposure 1/500s @f5.6

Superb, maybe cloning out the lettering on the roll cage would help give it that 50's feel, then again they didn't bother with safety in those days.
nice one

Great shot, definitely has an old school racing feel to it.

I found it a bit too crisp and static to evoke the classic racing shots of the past, so I've done a quick mod to make it the sort of image that it evokes for me. Hope you like it - I'm no PS expert!

Thanks everyone. Really appreciated.

Steve, like your mod the blurring and grain adds a nice feel to image, transferring it into more of a newspaper style image, well worked Thanks for taking the time and effort to have a crack.

And now its off to the zoo

Delighted to give it a wee nudge does have the style of the 50's and in B&W it features well. Good exposure.

Great shot! Love the B&W - works v well. Well done for capturing it so sharp with the blurred bg (panned i'm assuming - have read about that technique tho not tried it out yet!) Really well deserved HC!

Cheers everyone, I was really pleased with this shot, got a printed version up in the office at the mo!

Becky, this was panned but the blurred background was due to the shallow DOF. I'd set the camera at f/5.6, which gave me a shutter speed of 1/500s. I find this works well on the close up shots like this and the close motorbike ones you see. However the next shot in my pf (winner) is a true panned shot; exposure set at 1/60s @ F16 and I worked my hips. If you use a faster shutter speed on this type of shot you freeze the wheels which looses some of the sense of speed. You can pratice this on a fast stretch of road or motorway. Not too many motorways in Dundee!
