A quick view of GARYHICKIN's recent activity.

  • Marshmallow World

Such a minimalist approach brings to mind the works of Kazimir Malevich ( suprematism ). Interesting stuff going on here in your PF !

  • Lights in the Storm

Really nice - the frost certainly gives the image an impressionist quality.

  • Morning Still Life

Good composition and no glaring highlights, tricky to do with glass objects. The figure certainly adds that little extra interest that lifts the image.

  • The Dancer

Nicely seen and captured- a great way to explore the imagination of others. I too share your anthropomorphic interpretation. Sadly very little frost this year where we live.

Quote:Now is that cat real or stuffed? Looks real to me so the right moment was chosen as it walks into the image. Very clever.

    Hi Phil,
This was not an easy shot to get right - I was fortunate enough to have a neighbour who was looking after a trio of kittens (btw - I am allergic to cats!) she kindly came round with a friend and they took it in turns to put the kittens through the backdrop and empty mirror frame. The basic arrangement had already been set up with the idea of adding other elements later, the kittens took great delight in playing with and generally disrupting anything they could get their paws on- anyway to cut a long story short approx two hours later all three of the kittens were exhausted and fell asleep but at least I had enough shots to work with.

Quote:I find this a breathtakingly beautiful shot. The time and patience that went into setting it up and the flawless execution are superlative (having uploaded my first attempt just the other day, I am cringing Blush). It has definitely inspired me to have another go. I am interested to see you didn't use a flash, but suspect you might have some special lighting? studio? Fabulous.
PS Your whole portfolio is full of wonderment....you have a new fan here!

Hi- Thank you so much for such encouraging feedback, it is very much appreciated. Re. lighting -
There is one main source of light to the left which is just an anglepoise lamp through fleecy plastic sheet strectched across a window shape cut out of board. To the right of the arrangement is a standard large white circular reflector. The rest was selectively lit during the long exposure with a Maglite on narrow beam eg the Dutch Roemer and Pheasant.
