Avalanche Season

By GavMc
Another photie from Courcheval. The heavy, quick snow made it one of the worst avalanche seasons in years. The daily avalanche risk is measured on a scale of 1 (low) to 5 (very high), and is displayed using a range of coloured flags at ski lifts across the resort.

This black/yellow flag indicates a risk of level 3 (considerable), and makes for a lovely strong contrast image against the deep blue sky and crisp white snow.

The image is unprocessed apart from a crop, and the addition of my current foible of a black frame with an accent hairline!

Comments, especially about what borders work or dont, welcome.

Gav

Colours are striking. I'm neutral on the border. John

It's a high quality image. I'd like to see other things in it like the mountians in the background but I would guess that was not possible here.

Thanks Patrick.

I liked the purity of this image with the strong sky, but appreciate what you're saying about some background to make it more interesting.

I've uploaded another shot of the flag which does have some background. However I've done so as a mod (of this post) rather than an all new post, because although its ok, I don't feel this alternative photo that I took at the time doesn't achieve your suggestion very well.

But a good idea I'll try next time!

Thanks
