ricketty ride

By GavMc
Although most of Courchevel's ski lifts and telecabines are very modern a few nostalgic oldies remain. This photie is the telecabines of the Le Praz lift, taken from the landing bay at the top. Like old cars or aeroplanes these old 'bubbles' have a certain timeless charm. They are simple cacoons of coloured fibreglass that you force open like a clamshell. Making my ricketty way up the mountainside I really felt I could be in an early Bond movie!

I like this image for the bright colours against the austere snow, and the shapes and composition.

I pushed up the contrast and brightness marginally and put on a black border with a red accent from the left hand cabin.

This post is a replacement of one I did this morning which on reflection I judged less strong, on account of having a white border and a wider crop of a few more cabins. Ive put the first upload on as a mod so you can judge for yourself which works better.

Comments always welcome, thanks for looking..

This works very well. The red one is at the front and in my view helps lift the picture.

Great shot, I'm just jealous this being my first season in over 10 without a skiing trip.

Like the composition with the main cable car shadowed by the two distant ones.
The red car in the background instead of the foreground,as shown here, wouldn't have worked nearly so well.

this is a very good shot crisp and clear with the added red to give impact. Not sure whether frames helps though. ian

Thanks for all your feedback guys - glad the changed idea meets with your approval.

Ian: yes, maybe the red accent line in the border is a touch thick.

Cheers..

Like the tight and busy composition of this compared to your original in mods. This is great. You've achieved the colour standing out from the background, and I love the almost vertical background effect.

The colours are RGB I notice, so no doubt this will appear in a magazine article about colour filters in B&W photography in the future!!

I think I would have cloned out the yellow number nine thing, but actually probably would not have noticed it if I'd taken the photo.

Tim sums up it quite nicely, so I'll just second his remarks. Wink

Yes, this one is far better, and the composition is good with the crop. The border detracts, I'm afraid. I really get the sense of height here, excellent.
