An image from the 1st World War battlefield trip to Flanders and The Somme taken earlier this year. This image was taken at the famous Menin Gate in Ieper (Ypres) which I found profoundly moving (and cold ! )

I agree, these places are moving. When one realises that these memorials record those with no known grave, the enormity of it all comes into focus. My great uncle is commemorated at the memorial in Bethune, and just finding his name amongst all the others was really sad.
