Precious cargo

By geoffrey baker
I finally managed to get over to Skomer Island on Friday after 2 previous aborted attempts due to this Northerly wind that's been causing a nuisance this year.

Thanks to my friends Paul Rosser and Celia from the Pyle and Porthcawl Photographic Society for their company.

There were more puffins coming in with beaks full of sandeels than I've ever seen before and I must have been about 10 times now, there was a continuous stream of them passing us and landing right in front of us, it was like a turkey shoot but very difficult as they fly so fast.
The light was as good as I've ever had out there, bright yet diffused resulting in hardly a blown highlight out of the 265 photos that I've kept.
The wind turned through 90 degrees while we were there and it became perfect for helping the birds slow down before landing, everything was perfect for a change.

I've cropped this one a little as the puffin was dead centre when taken.

If anyone is thinking of going then get over there as soon as possible, it looks like a great year with large numbers of Puffins.
