Anemone coronaria

By GeorgePlatis
Anemone coronaria means crown anemone. It is a perennial spring-flowering bulb with delicate blood-red flowers. Their seed is carried on the wind, hence the ancient Greek name for the flower, anemone (from “anemos”, the wind).
Anemone is sacred to Aphrodite (probably planted in the "Adonis-gardens") . This magnificent flower is connected with the myth of Adonis death. Adonis was a handsome youth loved by the goddess Aphrodite. When he was slain by a wild boar, the goddess created the red anemone flower from his blood.
Since then this flower is growth in every field and mountain of Greece in variety of colors such as red, purple, white.
