Chrysanthemum coronarium is a native plant in the Mediterranean basin and it belongs to the family of Asteraceae. It is herbaceous plant that can surpass the 1 meter in height. It consists of numerous up shoots. The flower form an inflorescence flower head with a diameter greater than 6 cm. The center of the inflorescence is surrounded by bracts leaves with different colors, mostly white or yellow. The flowers are hermaphroditic, meaning that each one has both male and female reproductive organs. The blossoms of this plant contain yellow pigments that impart this intense color. In Greece this plant is called as “mantilida” and in some countries is used in cooking, as a decoction or in the production of insect repellents.
