Prickly pears

Prickly pear belongs to cactus genus of plants and it is native on Rhodes and the whole Mediterranean basin. It is also known as Opuntia and it can reach to 3-5m high although it has not a trunk but strong leaves. It produce fruits as you can sea in this image that they are very tasteful.

I saw some of these once--- at a castle in Portugal-- They would deter me from trying to climb to the walls!

Lots of these in Arizona. People make prickly pear jelly. And, it's very good. Nice shot.

We have these in South Africa as well, i remember getting the little thorns in my tongue as a child....delicious fruit....well captured
